Terms & Conditions of Membership

Adhering to WRAPT Membership Terms and Conditions is vital to ensure consistent care, good record keeping, and accountability for animal welfare.

When you join WRAPT you agree to these Terms and Conditions, including the following:

General Membership Terms
  • to support and promote the core values of WRAPT Wildlife Carers and comply with its policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • to comply with all relevant governance including but not limited to the Code of Practice – Care of Sick, Injured or Orphaned Protected Animals in Queensland.
  • to adhere to any reasonable instructions and advice provided by the Management Committee.
  • You agree that all activities you undertake for Wally’s, Roo’s and Possum Carers Association Townsville, inc. are completely voluntary and are at your own expense and risk.
Rehabilitation Terms
  • You must attend the Basic Level training course before you can become a carer, (contact the committee, 0474630785-option 2 for information on courses available).
  • To report all native animals in your care to the relevant species coordinator, regardless of the animals’ origin or which permit they fall under, being individual or the group permit.
  • Consult with the relevant coordinator before any movement of native animals. This is very important for the well-being of the animal and to keep our records correct.
  • Not to pass on native fauna in care to another person unless that person has the appropriate permit and training.
  • Serious, deliberate, and /or repeated breaches of any of these conditions may result in the cancellation of memberships.
  • If you are caring for, or planning to care for, another wildlife group, Members must disclose other group memberships and complete a Conflict-of-Interest form to prevent resource cross-contamination and data errors. You must report any animals you have in care from another wildlife group to your species coordinator as soon as you receive them.
Communication

We also ask all carers to keep in regular contact with their coordinators. This is again very important for your animals’ welfare. Books, Facebook, and Google do not take the place of experienced hands-on support and knowledge. If your circumstances change and you are having difficulty caring for an animal, please contact your coordinator for advice or relocation of the animal.

Record Keeping

If you are an active carer you are required to maintain your animals’ records and data on our mobile-friendly, online database called Nutrix. This is a DES requirement under section 16. Records of the Code of Practice—Care of sick, injured or orphaned protected animals in Queensland.

Training will be provided on how to use the website.

Euthanasia

No members are to perform euthanasia unless they are licensed to do so.

The Wildlife Ethics committee state that animals should be taken to the nearest vet for euthanizing. If a vet is not readily available, you as a member of WRAPT Inc. agree that the animal should be taken to a carer who is licensed to perform euthanasia.

These people are willing to check the animal over before euthanizing at any time of the day and night. Unlicensed members are not permitted to perform euthanasia in any form and any serious, deliberate, and /or repeated breaches of this may result in the cancellation of WRAPT Wildlife carers’ membership and depending on severity of the incident, may be reported to the Department of Environment and Science.

Subsidy Schemes

WRAPT Wildlife Carers Townsville, offers many subsidy schemes to its members. This is to ensure the money raised for the group is invested back into the group, prioritizing our carers and rescuers.

The subsidies currently available to all members (as at Nov 2024)

  • Wildlife Food subsidy – all Active carers receive a 50% discount on wildlife food. Please refer to the Wildlife Food Subsidy Scheme Policy to see any exclusions.
  • Fuel Subsidy – all members that operate their motor vehicle for WRAPT related purposes are entitled to a fuel card for travel they incur. Proof of travel required and recorded into Nutrix. Please refer to the Fuel Subsidy Scheme Policy for the most recent tariffs that apply.

Conditions of use:

  • You must be a current and paid-up member of WRAPT to access the subsidies.
  • The subsidies are to benefit WRAPT and its members only and supplies cannot be used on non-WRAPT wildlife animals. Membership to other groups may result in your access to the subsidies being reviewed; this is assessed case-by-case.
Training and Skills maintenance

All carers of the group are required to attend at least one refresher training per year, held multiple times a year, to ensure your skills in wildlife care are maintained. These courses will be free to existing members.

There are also advanced courses offered to carers who wish to increase their skill level. These courses will be scheduled as the need arises; these courses may incur a fee to existing members.

Care and Respect

As a member of WRAPT, you agree to treat all members with respect and support for the carering role we undertake. Including adhering to the guidelines of WRAPT Facebook pages and meeting attendance etiquette.
