About this policy

Wally's, Roo's and Possum Carers Association Townsville Inc. ("WRAPT", "we", "us") is a volunteer-run wildlife rescue and rehabilitation organisation. We respect your privacy and handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles as a matter of good practice.

This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how you can contact us about it. It applies to our website (wrapt.org.au and related pages), our online forms, our wildlife hotline, and our membership and rescue systems.

What we collect

Wildlife reports and rescue jobs

When you report wildlife by phone, through our online form or by other means, we collect your name, phone number, email address (optional), the location of the animal, the species, and a description of the situation. We may also collect photos or GPS locations if you send them to us.

Membership and volunteering

When you join or renew, we collect your name, address, phone numbers, email address, date of birth, wildlife permit details (if any), the ways you'd like to be involved, and an optional photo. We also keep the login details for your member account.

Donations and sponsorship

Online donations are processed by our payment provider (Square). We receive the details needed to acknowledge and record your donation but do not store your card details. If you sponsor an animal or donate goods, we may keep your name and contact details to thank you and keep in touch about your support.

Contacting us

If you email us, message our Facebook page or call our lines, we keep the details you give us so we can respond.

How we use your information

Who we share it with

Rescue jobs: When a rescue job is logged, the information recorded for that job (which may include the reporter's name, phone number, email address and the location of the animal) may be shared with our collaborators, veterinary clinics, and rescuers, so that the animal can be collected, assessed, treated and cared for. Sharing is limited to what is reasonably needed to carry out the rescue.

We may also share personal information:

We do not sell personal information.

Cookies and website tracking

Our public website does not use advertising or analytics trackers. Some pages use cookies that are essential for things like keeping you logged in to member areas and protecting forms. Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, and links to third-party services (such as Square and Facebook) are governed by those services' own privacy policies.

Keeping your information safe

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. Member systems require a login, and access is limited to people who need it for their WRAPT role. No online system is completely secure, so please take care when sharing information over the internet.

We keep personal information for as long as it is needed for rescue, membership and record-keeping purposes, and then take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where we no longer need it. Members can also update many of their details in their member account. Contact us using the details below and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can.
